Hi and Welcome to Tommy Cats Rescue. I am Vicki Hansen, Trustee (Mom to the cats) and your tour guide. We are located near the world's most beautiful beaches, Pensacola, Florida. Our biggest philosophy of life is to Live Well, Laugh Often and Love Much. To be responsible in your actions toward all creatures and never do anything that you don't want to be done to you. We decided to change our name in loving memory of Thomas Mitchell who is my adopted daughter, Aarin aka Samantha, her half brother whose life was stolen from him at too young an age. Tommy loved cats and rescued a number of them himself! He was only 10 years old and had such a bright future ahead of him. Another case in point that parents who do drugs usually get into domestic voilence when coming down and it needs to end. If you know of children living in those conditions, for their sake report it before it's too late! Tommy and his mother Betty will be missed for a very long time by all who loved them! If You Truly Wish To Help Read this Now We believe that as human beings we are the ones who were given dominion over all the creatures on Earth. With that we have a responsibility to these creatures and can not take that responsibility lightly. We need to pick up where so many leave off. Humans domesticated cats and dogs. We made them dependent on us. Then we let them down. The majority of humans turn out millions of cats and dogs every year. They get a pet and then provide that pet with little more than a collar (first thing most people get their pet) and food/water. They don't bother to spay/neuter them, vaccinate, shelter or nurture them. In our county alone, more than 1,566 cats and dogs are put down each month. That is 18,800 pets per year. 12,533 of those put down are cats. Those numbers do not reflect the numbers of cats that are put down weekly at the Vet Clinic's simply for the convenience of their owners. I am not talking about those who euthanize them because they are suffering but simply for convenience. It also doesn't include the ones legally being captured and killed by our state's forestry department. Those are numbers for our County Animal Shelter alone. We give criminals a better break than cats. What's up with that?!
For the past 13 years, we have done everything we could to save those cats that we can. We have taken in the sick, tortured, abandoned, orphaned, feral kittens and cats that we have come across or has been brought to us. No one was ever denied shelter. We provide nurturing, health care, preventative medicine, spaying/neutering, food (Science Diet), water and shelter and found a lot of them a home of their own. Special needs kitties find their permanent home here with us. We currently have 80 permanent residents, due to exposure of FIP and Feline Leukemia, we can only adopt out those that are in Foster Homes. We can not take any cats into the Sanctuary until a Shelter is built. We need to build a shelter with an in-house clinic for those who are sick and for those who are injured. We believe in providing the ill and fatally ill with all the love, nurturing and medical support possible. It's amazing to see those that have actually been saved. To date, all this has been funded by me and a few very dedicated cat lovers. We are located in Pensacola, Florida. I work as a Vet Tech to supply everything that they need and be able to afford the medical care. As a mother/step mother of 5 children (4 grown) and a wife, my time is stretched as well as my finances. Cats are my passion, my calling. I believe that I honor what God has given us all by caring for those who are cast out and alone. I am calling to those of you, out there in our world, that care and want to join me in helping these cats. There are many things you can do to help. There are things that you can do and you never even need to leave your home. Meet the kitties and decide if you can help. For more information about our adoption polices please click here. Due to the increase in county tags and the requirement that some cat rescues must have tags for all cats, I find that we can no longer afford to stay in Escambia County. We have been offered two acres of land along with a mobile home in Beaufort, SC which would provide the cats a much better sanctuary, with no neighbors who hate cats to complain about them. Our problem now is finding a way to relocate all the cats safely. The ideal way would be to obtain a horse trailer and fit it with cages, which we have. We don't have the funds to purchase one and would like for someone who has one to loan it to us for the trip. If you know of anyone who has a trailor that we could use or if you have one, please contact me, Vicki at 454-5202. The cats will love their new home and will really appreciate your help!!
We are always in need of cat litter, blankets, towels, toys, cleaning supplies and building supplies. Any help you can give is VERY GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!! =^..^=
